Media Temple’s stand on SOPA
December 23rd, 2011 at 3:22 pmWe believe in maintaining the freedoms and openness of the Internet which provides a voice to the aspirations of people everywhere.
Demian Sellfors, CEO, (mt) Media Temple
@demian_sellfors
As written, (mt) Media Temple will not be supporting the legislative measures recently introduced in the United States House of Representatives and Senate; HR 3261, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), as well as S.968, the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA). More work is required in order to achieve a balance which controls online piracy while continuing to promote innovation, job creation, and free expression.

Great choice.
I also firmly agree with the statement “We believe in maintaining the freedoms and openness of the Internet which provides a voice to the aspirations of people everywhere.”

Thanks for posting this (mt)! I saw your name on the ‘against’ list Tech Crunch posted earlier today. While I don’t support piracy, I also don’t support the drastic measures that would become possible with these bills. Thanks for taking a stand in this (mt), makes me proud to be a (mt) customer on a whole new level!

Thank you. Not only do you guys give great customer support but this speaks volumes on how you actually regard the customer as a person. And I would personally like to state that I am proud to be your customer.

I agree with Eric ‘WizKid’. You guys make me proud. SOPA is messed up. A great tool that I like to use to contact my Senators and Representatives is Open Congress: http://www.opencongress.org/

I’m really glad you posted this! I wasn’t familiar with (mt) until I found this post on Hacker News today. I had a look around and will definitely be giving your service a try. Currently I’m using AWS but I like the looks of your offerings. Plus the fact that you don’t support SOPA is great!

Companies, to often, are pulled in ways for political and financial gains, and negate what is good for their customer’s long term well being. You have demonstrated foresight in my better interest and because of that I will remain your loyal customer. Thank you (mt)!

We’ll be moving all our domains (53) from GoDaddy to MediaTemple. We wont make the deadline, Dec 29, 2011 — were not rich enough to move them all at once — but we will be gone from GoDaddy by March 2012. Media Temple is great, we already have all our sites hosted with them. Having our sites also registered with Media temple has needed to happen for awhile, but this SOPA deal has made it more expedient for our company. Jared @ 420 Studios Inc.

SOPA is like shutting down a store because somebody shoplifted.

I’ve been in the process of moving all of my domians and hosting from GoDaddy to MediaTemple. Very excited to have a new home. I also firmly agree with the statement “We believe in maintaining the freedoms and openness of the Internet which provides a voice to the aspirations of people everywhere.”

Demian Sellfors is my new favorite CEO.

It’s unfortunate that our representatives are uneducated and so out of touch. Thanks to (mt) for being a strong voice against #SOPA and #PIPA.

Just another reason I am glad I have been with (mt) for the last 3 yrs. We must do what we can to stop BigBrother, this is not 1984! I will not support SOPA or any other contrived legislation giving the US government free reign over us, the internet citizens!
