Increase Your (dv) 3.5 Memory, Free.
June 4th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
You deserve more RAM to do more stuff, run more processes, and satisfy memory-hungry apps. That’s why we’re upping the resources for all of our (dv) 3.5 customers.
Starting today, all new Dedicated-Virtual 3.5 servers will be provisioned with doubled guaranteed RAM allocations at no extra cost!
- (dv) Base 512MB RAM (was 256MB)
- (dv) Rage 1GB RAM (was 512MB)
- (dv) Extreme 2GB RAM (was 1GB)
I Already Have a (dv) 3.5… What Should I Do?
Log into the AccountCenter WebControls for your (dv) and click “Upgrade Server.” If you see the upgrade notice above, your server is ready for upgrade! Check out this KB Article for the full details.
**Note: At this point, around 70% of our existing (dv) 3.5 customers’ host machines have been upgraded, so if you can’t see this yet, don’t worry… The upgrades are happening on an ongoing basis, and we expect them all to be completed over the next 30 days.
***Update! All (dv) 3.5’s should have the upgrade available

Why don’t you do the same with (dv) 3.0 servers? Those clients doesn’t need a memory upgrade? They just doesn’t deserve it?
That does not look good.

Cool. Lack of cheap memory was reason i moved from (dv) in the first place, now i might come back
June 5th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
@Leandro - The (dv) 3.0 is a legacy product that was replaced by the newer (dv) 3.5s so we won’t be upgrading the specs.
We do encourage you to migrate to the newer platform if you’d like to take advantage of not only the increased memory, but also newer software versions of PHP, MySQL, etc.
It’s pretty easy via the Plesk Migration Manager.

Thanks MediaTemple, I recently changed hosts and I found out today on top of everything else I get free memory!
I hope that you will increase the base HD space as compared to other hosts it does lack. Nonetheless its a great update.
Thanks again!

This still doesn’t show up in our (dv) 3.5 account. Anything special we need to do ?
June 8th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
@Noam 70%+ of Host servers have had physical RAM upgrades, and efforts are ongoing. That number will increase in the coming weeks and we estimate the upgrade will be available to all customers in a month or so.
June 8th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Is there a way we can just ‘opt in’ before you upgrade the physical server? Or receive an email when it’s available?
Or do we have to keep checking in/out to see whether you’ve got to our boxes yet?
Thanks guys - was a welcome surprise!

sweet… with a nice control panel at $50 a month… nice .. slicehost better watch out.. mt might take all their customers..

@Russell - We’ll be sending out Scheduled Maintenance Announcements when your host machine is getting the physical RAM upgrade. From the completion of the maintenance window it usually takes 24-48 hours for the upgrade to be available to you in your AccountCenter.
