UOP upgrades complete

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 at 12:10 pm

UOP upgrades for (dv) 3.0 Dedicated-Virtual Servers have finally completed.  Our teams are still going through the last of the servers to ensure that all of the upgrades went smoothly.

This upgrade took considerably longer than our engineers anticipated, this was largely due to unforeseen complications originating from a few customer (dv) services.  Most of the delay was caused by individual (dv) servers that were very busy or running under extremely high load.  Because of the complications our upgrade team decided to manually review each server after the upgrade completed, given the high number of servers this resulted in very long delays.

At this time we have completed the mass UOP upgrades and are attending to a very small percentage of servers that need a little extra help.  If a customer believes that their server is still affected by this issue we encourage them to update or file a support request via the AccountCenter.

We sincerely apologize for the delay and any inconvenience this may have caused.

Still upgrading

Thursday, October 18th, 2007 at 5:56 pm

Our upgrade team is still working diligently to make sure every server is upgraded smoothly.  Again we apologize for the length of this process.

UOP progress update

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007 at 10:31 pm

Engineers are continuing to work on the last of the UOP upgrades, each (dv) needs to be individually inspected after an upgrade to make sure all services came up as expected.  We apologize for the extended nature of this upgrade and will continue to post progress updates to this thread.

Upgrades 80 percent completed

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007 at 6:36 pm

As of 6:00 PM PDT the UOP upgrade was over 80% complete.  Our upgrade team will continue the process through the night, watching each upgrade to ensure a smooth transition.

We would like to reiterate that during the upgrade your (dv) will not be taken off line.  Each (dv) must be rebooted after it has been upgraded and this is the only potential period of unavailability.

We will continue to update this thread as we get more information.

Upgrade process continuing

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

Our upgrade teams have decided to run last nights UOP upgrades at a much slower rate than planned. We have done this to ensure that upgrades go as smooth as possible for each customer and because of this change the process has extended well beyond our scheduled window. We are continuing to do the upgrades through today, it is important to remember that each individual server will only be down long enough to reboot. No additional downtime is required.

As of this post we are about 65% of the way through upgrading all UOP enrolled (dv) 3.0 servers.

Some customers are experiencing upgrade issues which are usually related to modified versions of PHP, Apache or MySQL. Our upgrade team is working to resolve each issue it appears, however if you feel your server is still affected by upgrade related issues please file a support request in the AccountCenter. We will update this thread when we have more information.

Maintenance Scheduled Tue, Oct 16

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Tonight (mt) Engineers will be conducting an upgrade of all of our (dv) 3.0 servers in accordance with our Update Option Program (UOP).  The window for this maintenance action is:

Tuesday October 16th 5:00 PM - Wednesday October 17th 4:00 AM PDT

To see when this window will occur in another timezone please visit this link.

Each customer service will need to be brought offline briefly while it is updated, at which time it will immediately come back up.  This means that even though we have a very long window to complete this maintenance, individual servers are likely to see only a few minutes of downtime.

Only (dv) 3.0 services enrolled in the UOP will be affected by this upgrade.  (dv) 2.0 servers or any other (mt) Media Temple hosting products will not be updated at this time.

FAQ:

What is the Update Option Program (UOP)?

(mt) Media Temple created our UOP to help provide the highest level of service to our (dv) customers.  All manner of security, stability updates and new features are rolled into a UOP upgrade.  Additionally by making sure all of our UOP enrolled customers are using the same version of Plesk our customer service personnel can provide support specifically tailored for the current version.

Where can I find out more about the UOP?

Customers can always view the UOP in their AccountCenter by selecting a (dv) Service and clicking on “Update Option Program” or by simply following this link: Update Option Program

What is going to be updated?

We will be updating all (dv) 3.0 servers to use Plesk 8.2.1 free of charge. This is the newest release available and contains many improvements and updates.  For a complete list of changes please see the Swsoft website:

Plesk 8.2.0

Plesk 8.2.1

Are my services enrolled in the Update Option Program?

Unless you have specifically opted out of the UOP via the AccountCenter all of your (dv) 3.0 services are enrolled.  To verify which of your services are enrolled in the UOP please visit this link

Why wouldn’t I want to be enrolled in the Update Option Program?

Customers who have made or desire to make customizations to core services like MySQL, PHP or Apache may want to opt-out of the Update Option Program. This allows for the maximum amount of flexibility and customization while still having the Plesk updater feature available to them to upgrade Plesk and other services at their own pace. Unfortunately as outlined in the Scope of Support (mt) Media Temple is unable to offer the same level of support to customers that have chosen to opt-out of the Update Option Program.

What do I need to do?

  • If your server is enrolled in the UOP it will be updated accordingly.  No action on your part will be needed.
  • If you have used the AccountCenter to opt-out of the UOP, your server will *not* be updated.
  • If you haven’t logged into the AccountCenter to choose your UOP status please do so at this time.  Customers that haven’t yet logged in to choose their UOP status will automatically have all of their servers enrolled.

Our administrators oversee every upgrade and will react to issues as they arise.  If you think that this server should not be enrolled in the UOP please visit the AccountCenter to view the details.

We recommend staying in the Update Option Program (UOP) for all customers, however some of our technically adept customers may wish to control their own updates. If you have any questions regarding your service with (mt) Media Temple please file a support request through the AccountCenter
