Friday, May 25th, 2007 at 10:00 am

This morning there was another DDoS attack launched at several (mt) Media Temple services.  Some customers may have experienced network level interruptions or slow page loads, but the main symptoms of the attack have been alleviated.

Our engineers are working diligently to harden our network resources against any type of future service interruption.  We  apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Network interruption resolved

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 at 2:13 pm

This afternoon (mt) Media Temple engineers successfully mitigated a fairly sophisticated network attack aimed at several of our services. This distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack appears to have originated from China and other sources along the western Pacific rim.

We have upgraded our load balancing system and made various other network configuration changes to help prevent disruptions like this in the future. As always, we continue to upgrade and improve our network infrastructure to deal with emerging threats. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience.

Network upgrades, FTP

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 at 10:04 am

Due to today’s network disruption (mt) engineers will be performing upgrades to several of our load balancers. These rolling upgrades may cause disruptions of FTP service especially when transferring large files, webmail may also be affected. HTTP and email services should not be affected by this maintenance, customers on other product lines are also unaffected.

We expect to have these upgrades done by no later than 1:00pm PDT at which time we will update this thread with any further news.

Webmail issues nearing resolution

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 at 8:10 am

Some customers are still reporting intermittent issues with webmail and our engineers are working to quickly resolve any remaining issues. Email sent to the (mt) Media Temple network will not be bounced or lost and all other services in the Account Center are functioning as expected.

Network back online

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 at 7:08 am

All services are currently back online. The Account Center, which was a separate issue, is also back online and functioning.

(mt) Media Temple’s systems engineers have determined that the outage was due to a simultaneous failure of several load balancers which are now online and back to normal. Our systems engineers are currently investigating the cause of this failure and will post another update with more information when available.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.
